He is the director of the South African National Bioinformatics Institute and director of the Medical Research Council Bioinformatics Capacity Development Research Unit. In 2009 Dr. Christoffels\u00a0received the Department of Science and Technology\/National Research Foundation Research Chair in Bioinformatics and Public Health Genomics. As of 2009 Dr.Christoffels\u00a0has coordinatored genomics training on the African continent for the WHO-tropical disease research programme &#8211; the Glossina Functional Genomics Network (GFGN) as part of the International Glossina Genome Initiative. Dr. Christoffels&#8217; laboratory focuses on communicable diseases, including tuberculosis and sleeping sickness, and methodology to deal with next-generation sequencing data.<\/p><p>Dr.Christoffels\u00a0holds a Ph.D. in bioinformatics from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>independent SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD (iSAB) BIO PROFESSOR.
