Dr. Alfred Ssekagiri

Dr. Alfred is a Bioinformatics graduate student at Makerere University. His PhD work focuses on machine learning methods to further resolve taxonomic identification of metagenomics and meta-transcriptomics data. Currently, Dr. Ssekagiri works with Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) under H3ABioNet project. He holds a Master of science in Bioinformatics from University of Glasgow, master of science in mathematical science (applied mathematics) from African institute of mathematical science (AIMS). Prior to that, Dr. Ssekagiri graduated with a bachelor of science with Education from Makerere University. Dr. Alfred is equipped with knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and skills to process and analyze NGS data. Currently interested in developing methods and tools to further understand the relationship of the micro-biome with drug resistance, health and disease. His current work involves analysis of NGS data, databases, mathematical modeling of disease transmission dynamics in structured populations
